This year on the carpet there were a lot of loosely pulled back up-do's. They are meant to look soft and effortless, while still looking elegant and chic. Here are some tips on how to get that effortless hollywood hairstyle! (Tips derived from Vogue.co.uk's Ian Carmicheal along with my own)
Amy Adams |
Get the look by parting hair on the side and blow-drying the hair smooth and using large heated rollers or large-barrel curling iron to add wave and movement. Loosely pull the hair back and twist the hair into a low bun, securing with grips, taking care to leave loose sections at the front to frame the face and add softness. Finish with a medium hold hairspray so as to not lose movement. Remember the curls are supposed to be loose, so don't pull the curls in too tight!
Angelina Jolie |
Get this look by parting hair on the side, and blow-dry hair with a large barrel brush and fasten large rollers on random sections to create loose, flowing waves (mostly in frontal sections). Use large barrel brush to flip bangs up and away from face, giving a slightly feathered bang. Finish with a medium hold hairspray.
Eva Longoria |
January Jones |
Get January's look by applying volumising mousse to damp hair for added lift, and after parting hair to the side, blow-dry hair in sections with a large barrelled brush, curling the ends under as you go. For more effective curls, use large rollers to curl in the ends and brush out when dry. Finish with a shine serum for a super-glossy effect.
Lea Michelle |
Get this look by doing an extreme side-part, and using a small curling iron throughout dry hair to add slight movement and softly backcomb the hair from the back of the ears. Tease into place at the back, and gather into a pleat or bun, leaving sections at the front to hang free. The key to this effortless 'do is keeping it unstructured and relaxed. Finish with medium hold hairspray.
Milla Jovovich |
Get the look yourself using heated rollers to create volume, before brushing through with a round barrel brush and pinning the hair to one side (parting hair on opposite side with extreme side-part). Tease the hair into large waves with your fingers and fix with strong-hold hairspray.
Mila Kunis |
Tip dry hair upside down and spray with a root-lifting product then backcomb from the front to the crown to create height and volume. Fasten into a pouf with pins, allowing the finish to remain rough and textured. Twist into a bun or french twist. Finish with stong-hold hairspray.
